Child Sexual Abuse Prevention

* 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused before the age of 18 *

Child sexual abuse is likely the most prevalent health problem with the most serious array of consequences that children face.

There is evidence that the consequences of child sexual abuse are equal to or greater than the consequences of other forms of child maltreatment.

In 2012, the ICTF, Idaho's commission to end child abuse, announced the Treasure Valley Initiative. The goal of the initiative is to train 5% of the Treasure Valley's adult population (about 22,500 people) in child sexual abuse prevention. Now the ICTF and the YMCA are proud to announce their partnership to make Stewards of Children, an evidence-based child sexual abuse prevention program, readily available to all community members in the Treasure Valley as well as throughtout the State. SOC usually costs $10 per person, but the Treasure Valley YMCA has generously decided to offer $10,000 of the on-line version of the program for free through the Community Gifting Initiative. The ICTF encourages all responsible adults to participate in the training, but believes that it is essential for professionals who work with children, which includes library employees, daycare providers, and many more. People who encounter children on a daily basis are far more likely to be encountering a child who is abused, but are unaware of the signs.
